Delhi's Patiala House Court today, reserved its order over bail application moved by Christian Michel, one of the alleged middlemen in AgustaWestland Scam case for December 22, 2018.
Michel was produced before the Court as his custody with the CBI ended today.
The learned counsel appearing for Michel argued that Michel is under custody since his extradition and he was not required further for custodial interrogation. He added that no purpose will be served by keeping him further in custody.
Amidst all these, former Air Force Chief SP Tyagi has moved a plea seeking Court's permission to fly abroad. In response to his plea, the Court sought a reply from CBI on 22nd December.
Earlier, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) informed the Court that Christian Michel had spent Rs. 92 lakhs for facilitating the travel of Indian Air Force officials amid 2009 and 2013 and it requires Michel's custody in order to confront him with the documents related to a contract of worth 18.4 million euro.
The intelligence agency has said that the accused refused to cooperate in the past weeks since he was extradited from the UK. Michel along with two other middlemen was hired by AgustaWestland to influence top-ranking officials and the UPA government to help the company secure the Rs.3600 crore deal.
If we talk about the recent developments, probing agency CBI has accessed around 28 fax dispatches in connection with the VVIP chopper deal which Michel had forwarded to AgustaWestland from India having details regarding important people, contracts, dates as well as alleged bribe details.
Sources further say that the agency has confronted Michel with J B Balasubramaniam, his employee in Mumbai and other two retired IAF officers.
In May 2014, Geoffrey William Hoon, who joined AgustaWestland as its managing director, in his testimony before an Italian court has provided details regarding Michel's way of working for AgustaWestland, in which he claimed that Michel used to provide a monthly statement as well as a monthly report giving details of the political events in progress in India and also pointed out the topics that could be important for trade and business opportunities.
Michel is one of the three middlemen probed in the AgustaWestland chopper case, apart from Italian Guido Haschke (US and Italian nationality) and Carlo Gerosa (Swiss and Italian nationality) and was extradited from Dubai on December 4, 2018.
