A Delhi Court on Monday extended the interim protection from arrest of former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram and his son Karti till February 18.
Earlier, during a hearing on January 11, the Delhi court had granted the Father-Son duo protection from arrest till February 1, but Chidambaram informed that he won’t be available.
Earlier in December, the Court granted time to CBI till January 11 to get sanction in order to prosecute some of the accused in the case. The CBI also clarified that the required sanctions needed for the prosecution of the public servants, also accused in the case was procured by them.
P Chidambaram and his son Karti are the accused in the Aircel Maxis money laundering Case for a 3500 crore deal, which has it’s roots in the 2G spectrum scam case. The Enforcement Directorate had accused P. Chidambaram of misusing his office as the Union Finance Minister and conspiring to launder money while allowing his son Karti Chidambaram to receive kickbacks. The said approvals were made by the Finance Minister even when it was out of his jurisdiction.
