The Delhi High Court bench of Chief Justice Rajendra Menon and Justice VK Rao on Monday, while disposing the Petition filed by the victim, directed the Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI) to advance its inquiry into the rape allegations against self-styled Goodman Daati Maharaj, accused of subjecting the woman petitioner to rape and unnatural sex at his ashram.
The Court further directed the parties and the counsel of CBI to appear before the Magistrate on November 26.
However, earlier the bench asked the agency to submit its inquiry report to the High Court, but, on Monday, the bench asked the agency to file the report before the trial court, which is currently dealing with the issue.
The Court in its order said,
“We deem it appropriate to direct the CBI to proceed with the inquiry and file the report before the magistrate who shall proceed in accordance with the law. "
It is to be noted that the agency has registered a case of rape and unnatural sex against Daati Maharaj as per the orders passed by the High Court, in which it transferred the case to the CBI from the Delhi Police Crime Branch.
Following which, Daati Maharaj filed a Review Petition against the High Court decision, transferring the probe to CBI in the rape case of a 25-year-old woman who lived as a disciple in his ashram.
On November 14, the Delhi High Court dismissed self-styled godman Daati Maharaj's Review Petition against its decision.
Earlier in this month, Dati Maharaj contented before the Delhi High Court that the CBI has lodged a fresh FIR against him which was not as per the followed norms.
On June 7 last Year, Daati Maharaj has been booked under sections 354, 376, 377, 34 of Indian Penal Code in Fatehpur Beri Police Station for allegations levelled by a 25-year-old victim, claiming that she was raped by Daati Maharaj and his two associates two years ago at the godman’s ashram.
