Muzaffarpur Shelter Home Case-CBI Files Charge Sheet Against All the Accused Under POCSO

The Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI), probing sexual assault cases of shelter homes in Bihar state on Wednesday has filed a charge sheet against all the accused in the Muzaffarpur Shelter home case under the POCSO Act, whereas, the Enforcement Directorate has summoned for the prime accused Brajesh Kumar’s son Rahul Anand and his wife Asha Thakur for interrogation on December 24 and 26 respectively.

The case refers to the FIR submitted by the Bihar Social Welfare Department based on a social audit report conducted by the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) at Sahu Road, Muzaffarpur, a shelter home for girls managed by Seva Sankalp Evam Vikash Samiti. In the audit, the officials of the home were accused of sexual exploitation and mental/physical abuse of the girl children living there.

Earlier this month, Bihar Social Welfare Minister Manju Verma’s bail plea was rejected by the Patna court, who was declared as accused along with her husband Chandrashekhar Verma by the CBI in the FIR lodged by the Cherie Bariarpur police. Manju Verma had to resign following the allegations and the raid on her house by the CBI which proved her connection with the case.

On May 31, an FIR was lodged against 11 people, including Thakur, the owner of the NGO Seva Sankalp Evam Vikas Samiti, in charge of running the said shelter home.

Later, the probe was taken over by the CBI and so far over 15 people have been arrested in the case.
