While refusing any relief to rape convict and self-styled godman Asaram, the Rajasthan High Court on Tuesday rejected his application seeking suspension of the sentence in the rape case.
The stern decision of the Court has not come for the first time as earlier in February also the Jodhpur bench of the Rajasthan High Court had dismissed his interim bail application.
Asaram moved interim bail application on the grounds of deteriorating health condition of his wife Laxmi Devi.
However, the Court while dismissal elucidated that it did not have any sympathy for such criminals.
In April last year, Jodhpur Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Court on founding Asaram guilty of raping a minor girl had sentenced him to life imprisonment.
He was charged under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including sections 370(4) (trafficking), 342 (wrongful confinement), 354A (outraging modesty), 376 (rape), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 120 B (criminal conspiracy), and some sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
However, in September last year, Rajasthan high court suspended the 20-year-sentence of Shilpi Gupta alias Sanchita, a key aide of self-styled godman Asaram Bapu and a co-convict in the case of sexual exploitation of a teenage girl.
Shilpi Gupta and Sharad, another accused were also sentenced to 20-year jail term in the case.
